Back to the Origins.
The Belarusian Association of Photographers invites visitors to the exhibition “Rice and Images of Vietnam: The Sacred” by Sergey Mikhalyuk, opening in Brest on 8 May.
The project was developed over several years and is based on the author’s journeys to northern Vietnam. It tells the story of life in remote mountain villages, where everyday existence still depends on the land, manual labor, and the rhythms of nature. The central subject of the photographs is not only the people, but also rice itself – as a source of life, daily work, and an essential part of cultural tradition.
In his black-and-white images, Sergey Mikhalyuk captures scenes of work on rice terraces, the interaction between people, water, and land, and everyday moments that together form a complete and self-contained world. This is not a tourist’s perspective, but an attempt to see and experience life from within – without staging or distance.
The exhibition will be of interest to those who appreciate documentary photography, engage with themes of tradition and culture, and seek not only narrative, but also atmosphere and emotional depth in images.
