As part of the 200th anniversary of photography and within the framework of the international photography festival Archive of Light, the Belarusian Association of Photographers announces the launch of PHOTOSCOPE.NEW – a reconstruction of the legendary web almanac Photoscope.by, one of the first professional online platforms dedicated to Belarusian photography and visual culture.
Originally established in the early 2000s and concluding its active work in 2015, Photoscope played a significant role as an intellectual space for critical reflection, discourse, and analysis of photographic practices in Belarus. Ten years later, the project returns in a renewed format – as an anthology of key texts, interviews, discussions, and analytical materials documenting the formative processes of Belarusian photography in the early 21st century.
The reconstruction initiative was undertaken by the editorial team of the Belarusian Association of Photographers with the aim of preserving and reintegrating a unique body of publications that had lost their original online presence. Beyond archival recovery, PHOTOSCOPE.NEW seeks to reposition this legacy within contemporary research, curatorial, and educational contexts.
PHOTOSCOPE.NEW is conceived as a forward-looking resource – a platform for photographers, curators, researchers, and all professionals engaged in the study and practice of Belarusian visual culture.
