The Belarusian Association of Photographers, in collaboration with the Leonid Shchemelev Art Gallery, presents a public program within the photography exhibition The Mystery of the Black Square – a creative event titled The Creation of Light, bringing together an artist talk and a live performance.
The program explores the artistic nature of light in photography and the role of authorial method in shaping visual expression. At the center of the evening is a conversation with photographer Anatoly Kukharchuk, whose practice approaches photography as a means of reflecting on space, observation, and inner experience. The works featured in the exhibition demonstrate a sustained investigation into the expressive capacity of the image, where formal restraint is paired with philosophical depth.
The evening opens with a performance by artist Galina Savelyeva, who works with light-based drawing techniques. Created in real time, her visual composition will enter into dialogue with the exhibition, forming a cohesive artistic environment. Live musical accompaniment by multi-instrumentalist Roman Kurach will reinforce an atmosphere of focused perception and expand the event’s audiovisual dimension.
The performative segment will transition into an open artist talk dedicated to the exhibition’s concept, the development of its three series, and the evolution of the author’s artistic approach. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in discussion and view the works within a professional and interpretive context.
The program is conceived as a space for artistic dialogue – between photography and performance, image and action, authorial intention and viewer experience.
