Artist Talk: Alexander Bublikov on “Silence. ART Portrait”.

On 3 October 2026 at 15:00, the Mikhail Savitsky Art Gallery will host a conversation with photographer Alexander Bublikov, author of the exhibition project Silence. ART Portrait. The conversation will also feature artists whose portraits are presented in the exhibition.

On view at the gallery since 11 September, the exhibition draws on material from the first volume of Bublikov’s photobook Silence and brings together portraits of artists from Belarus’s contemporary art community, including painters, graphic artists, and sculptors. The project explores portraiture as a way of encountering an artist beyond their familiar professional identity.

During the conversation, Alexander Bublikov will discuss the origins of the project and the process behind the series, sharing his approach to photographic portraiture and the ways he establishes a relationship with his subjects. The artists featured in the project will also speak about their own work, artistic practices, and the works represented in the exhibition.

The conversation will also address the relationship between the photographer’s gaze and the subject’s own understanding of their identity, practice, and public image – and the space that emerges between the person behind the camera and the person in front of it.

Bublikov will also present his photobook Silence, which provided the foundation for the exhibition, and talk about his approach to analogue photography and photographic printmaking.

Silence. ART Portrait invites viewers to encounter artists first and foremost as people – away from the stage, their work, and their professional roles. Here, the portrait becomes a point of encounter between photographer and subject, while the exhibition opens up a broader conversation about individuality, observation, artistic practice, and creative inspiration.
