Photoart Belarusian Non-Governmental Association

The Photoart Belarusian Non-Governmental Association was created on December 20th, 2003, during its constituent assembly in which 179 people from all regions of Belarus took part. On August 25th, 2004, the Photoart Union was registered in the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus. In February 2005, it was accepted in the Belarusian Confederation of Creative Unions. The Photoart Union is a creative association in terms of both character of its activity and the rule of law. Its activity's main objectives are as follows: to foster development of Belarusian photographic art and to advertise its achievements in Belarus and abroad; to preserve, increase and use creatively the photographic heritage as an integral part of Belarusian culture.

The union's members are creative people in various areas of photography: photographers, photoartists, photojournalists, art critics, curators and other experts. Among them are the most well-known and recognized professionals and specialists. It is due to their efforts and personal creativity that photography in Belarus becomes gradually an active participant of the art process.

Today, the Photoart Union is in the very beginning of its activity. There are lots of things to be done, first of all, from an organizational point of view. It is also necessary to create an image of the organization, to build partnership relations with all who are interested in it, to raise material resources and conditions for professional and creative activity of the union's members.

Nevertheless, a lot of things are already done. To the moment, the Photoart Union's members have participated in more than 140 exhibitions, including 21 international ones. Sport For Peace And Development (international contest under the UN aegis) and Drive (Belarusian Digital Photo contest) have been carried out. For two years, the union has been taking part in organizing ProPhotoArt, the national professional contest of art photography. The union's members have won the contests Best Mass Media Journalist of Belarus (Alexander Shablyuk), Fashion Mill (Leonid Levshinov), MASTER 2004, the 8th Moscow Ad Photo International Festival (Mikhail Maruga) and Kyiv Photo Salon 2005 (Vadim Kachan).

In 2004 in Minsk, the union's members Viktor Suglob and Grigory Shaternik opened the first in the CIS private public museum of photographic equipment "World of Photo" which collection totals to more than 1,600 showpieces. Under the guidance of the union's member Uladzimir Parf ianok, the NOVA Visual Art Gallery has been working in the Yanka Kupala Public Library in Minsk for more than eight years.

Works of Photoart Union's members can be found in various museum collections and galleries. The members of the union have participated in publishing the following photo albums: Grodno, Avgustovsky Channel, Lake of Svityaz (Alexander Losminsky), LA MIA TERRA (Vladimir Sutyagin), Minsk For A Day, Exotics Of Belarus (Sergey Plytkevich), Under The Sky Of Belarus (Anatol Kliashchuk), Photographs Of Past Years (Vadim Kachan), Lida (Igor Peshekhonov), etc. Materials about the union's exhibition activity, the artists' activity and the projects under realization can always be found in Belarusian mass media.

The Photoart Union's plans include arranging exhibitions, publishing Belarusian Photography: Yesterday And Today almanac, editing a series of one-person albums, organizing an international festival and scientific-practical conferences, publishing ethnographic and art photography albums dedicated to Belarusian cities and towns, carrying out researches within the framework of a preparation of the Belarusian Photo Anthology, creating the Internet resources, etc.

The Photoart Union welcomes everybody who is interested in cooperation.
